On December 24, 2024, the opening ceremony for the full opening of the Kazakhstan TKU Highway Project was held in Ust-Kamenogorsk, the terminal point of the highway. Among the attendees were Imanashev Darhan Sherikovich, President of Kazakhstan's State Highway Company, Baakhmetov Bakijan Kakunkajievich, Deputy Governor of East Kazakhstan Region, representatives from CITIC Construction, and heads of other participating construction units.
Kazakhstan TKU Highway, starting from Taldykorgan, the capital of Jetisu Region, runs through Ayagoz in Abai Region, Kalbatau, and terminates in Ustkamenogorsk, the capital of East Kazakhstan Region. Covering a total length of 767 kilometers, it comprises 37 kilometers of Class I Highway and 730 kilometers of Class II Highway. The construction team overcame numerous challenges, including complicated construction conditions, harsh natural environments, unstable supply of main materials, and disruptions caused by the pandemic over the past two years, to organize construction according to schedule properly. This demonstrated the impressive proficiency and outstanding managerial competence of a Chinese company in overseas infrastructure construction projects. This success sets a benchmark for engineering construction cooperation between China and Kazakhstan and serves as a model for collaboration programs under the Belt and Road Initiative.
